Service Description : Streamload is an online media storage service. We offer unlimited storage for all of your music, movies, videos and pictures! Have 100s of gigabytes of MP3, AVI, MPEG and JPG files? Bring them on - there are no storage limits on Streamload.
You can sign-up for a trial "Freeloader" account at no charge, but are limited to the number and size of files that you can download or stream per week. Paying members, "Streamloaders", can download or stream as much as they choose.

Gives you a personal, secure digital library of all your MP3s, videos, digital photos and work related documents. Other services just give you storage. Streamload provides you with unlimited capacity, unlimited access, and unlimited speed. Our unique technology allows us to handle files of all sizes. Plus it detects popular music and videos so you don't pay for storage
Client Software (user interface) : Streambeam compatible client application
(Streambeam is how you can add files to your Streamload account. Files can be added from (i) your local hard drive, (ii) a remote web-server or (iii) another Streamload account.)
Email features: Streamload allows users to send files via email. In fact, that recipient does not even have to have a Streamload account (they will be prompted to create one upon receipt of the email).
Security Features: Streamload is one of the most secure online storage sites on the web. All login, password, and credit card information is transmitted over secure SSL connections. User information is encrypted, and all databases are behind strong firewalls. Files can be shared, but you must explicitly mark them as such, otherwise that are 'private', and cannot be accessed by other users and are very secure for your own personal storage.

Verdict : Streamload has a great product If it worked as advertised, it'd be a great convenience, especially when uploading a larg number of files at the same time (even if they're small files). It is terribly unstable and slow. It frequently refuses to connect. It can take it MINUTES to load up, and yet more MINUTES to close. It is almost impossible to control (e.g.: to pause it, or to restart after a pause). It doesn't give the user enough information about how long he can expect the uploads to take, and how much data is left to upload. It is simply not ready for primetime, which is a shame, because the Streamload service is outstanding (even if they don't respond to my customer service emails, despite the fact that I'm a paying customer). Two programs to download - should be combined into one.

Verdict : Let me count the ways I hate this product... Cons: This product is actually more like a version 0.85. They call this product v1.26, so it makes me wonder how crappy the predecessors must have been. Basically, this program works only for simple functionality, if you're uploading about 250 meg or about 40 files at once. Past this, the program gets confused and is useless. My issues: - This program does not traverse into hidden directories. - Is very unreliable. It's a rare instance when it actually uploads everything to completion without error. - Very poor status indicator. Hard to tell where you're at and how much left to go. - No error recovery. Does not handle hickups in network connectivity. - Poor at interpreting complex directories and file structures. - Often goes into an error loop of getting stuck uploading the same file, continually trying to upload forever, forcing you to eventually kill the process. - Is slow. Even giving it priority CPU, is sluggish to respond. I get the feeling Streamload employees don't use their own product, else they'd actually find and correct these errors, and not leave this poor software without updates for more than six months. This could be really cool; unfortunately, it isn't. Pros: Well, the StreamLoad service itself is pretty good. It's a great bargin that I used to back up the major components of my hard disk. The web interface is easy to navigate through.

Verdict : Upgrade to mediamax ruined streamload The previous streamload service was quirky, crashy, and buggy, but at least it worked more than half the time. In August 2006 they "upgraded" the service to 'mediamax', with supposedly better features. The result has been a disaster. Anyone considering the service should go browse their blog at http://blog.streamload.com If you are comfortable with this level of problems, then go for it, with eyes open. The service is useful as an offsite file archive, but not much else.

Verdict : MediaMax I began using this host March 27, 2007. I considered it a Wal-mart i.e. what it did, it did well. However since moving the host to a service up North, what it did well is no longer. I sent numerous requests for assistance. The response is similar to Wal-Mart - NONE. Customer Service is not their bag. If they are able to stabilize the host servers, and regain the services they once had, then the site will at least be Wal-Mart again.

Verdict : Unreliable and no customer service I have been a StreamLoad customer for the past two years (2005-2007). When I joined, the service was fairly decent. It's not anymore. They have gone downhill horribly during the past year, ever since they converted themselves to "MediaMax". My uploads now fail a majority of the time, regardless whether I'm using the web interface or their custom upload software. Even when the uploads seem to complete, about one file out of every four never shows up in the browser. There is no phone support, and their customer service department ignores email for weeks at a time, leaving customers with no way to address issues. Avoid StreamLoad/MediaMax like the plague!
